Obituary

Betty L. Burkley, 91, of Lucernemines, passed away on August 14, 2014 at Bethany Place, Indiana. She was born in 1923 to Elmer Aukerman and Florence (Murphy) Aukerman in Spring Mill, PA. Betty attended the Indiana Wesleyan Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, gardening, and growing flowers. Betty loved her Lord and Savior most of all. She is survived by two sons and a daughter - Gary Burkley and wife Marge, Indiana; Georgia Zack and husband Thomas, Lucernemines; Richard Burkley and wife Sandy, Penn Run; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband - George "Dutch" Burkley in 2001; a son - Thomas, two sisters and two brothers - Gladys, Geraldine, Richard and Robert. Visitation will be on Monday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM with Rev. Joseph Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VNA/Hospice, 850 Hospital Road, Suite 3000, Indiana, PA 15701 The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Bethany Place for showing great compassion in taking care of their mother.
