Dr. Bernard A. Moreau, 72, of Homer City, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, October 14. Bernie was preceded in death by his father Albert F. Moreau, and mother Denela Longwell. Bernie is survived by his wife of 50 years - Bonnie F. Moreau, son, Chris Moreau, Houston TX, daughter Melissa Aungst (Bruce) State College, son, Timothy Moreau (Cheri) Greensburg, 3 grandsons, Cameron, Maverick, and Noah. Also surviving are: 2 brothers, Robert (Dorothy) Moreau, Murrysville; William (Mary K) Moreau, Indiana; 2 sisters, Bonnie (Bob) Radcliff, London, OH; Cathy (DeWayne) Renwick, Indiana; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Bernie graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree specializing in business education. Upon graduation Bernie was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army. Bernie and Bonnie were stationed at Ft. Rutger, AL where Bernie achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant as a quartermaster officer. Following his military service, Bernie pursued his college education by becoming a business teacher at Worthington High School from 1963-1967. Bernie was then selected to teach as an Associate Professor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania's, Kittanning branch campus. While teaching in Kittanning, Bernie obtained his PhD of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1979, Bernie was promoted to IUP's main campus where he was a professor, Department Head, and Interim Dean of the Eberly School of Business for 35 years. While at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Bernie was active with Future Business Leaders of America, where he was president in 1989, and the Pennsylvania Business Education Association. Bernie volunteered his time with numerous organizations including Visiting Nurses Association (Hospice) (Board member), Indiana County Ostomy Club, AARP (where he volunteered 10 years providing free tax services). Bernie was a member of the Indiana Model Railroad Club and Penn State's Master Gardener's Club (where he hosted numerous Hypertufa workshops at his home). Bernie was a member of St. Thomas More Parish (served as usher). Bernie's hobbies included model trains, gardening, landscaping, and home improvement projects. He and Bonnie also enjoyed traveling abroad and within the United States with friends and family. Viewings will be held at Bowser Minich Funeral Home on Sunday, October 17 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a funeral mass held at St. Thomas More, Monday, October 18 beginning with a brief viewing at 9:30 AM followed by a mass at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow directly at St. Bernard's Cemetery for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Thomas More University Parish, 1200 Oakland Ave., Indiana, PA 15701.
