Bud's Obituary

Bernard "Bud" Brendle, 89, of Indiana, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024. Born on August 20, 1934, in Sykesville, he was the son of the late Joseph J. and Mildred C. (Shaffer) Brendle.

Bud was a 1952 graduate of Sykesville High School and then attended sales courses through the Dale Carnegie School. Honorably serving in the United States Army until his discharge in 1960, he then spent the next 35 years working for Douds of Plumville retiring in 1998.

Bud was very active in his community, volunteering for many organizations. He was a 22-year board member of the Indiana County Aging Services, a committee member of the Scared Heart Cemetery, Sagamore, the Central District Fireman's Association, the Greek Catholic Union, the American Cancer Society, as well as the American Red Cross. Bud was a former member of Sacred Heart Parish in Sagamore and now a member of St. Thomas More University Parish, Indiana.

In his free time, Bud enjoyed gardening, eating out, and traveling extensively. He was able to visit all 50 states as well as 15 different countries.

Surviving Bud is his wife, Barbara S. (Salerno) Brendle of Indiana, son Joseph Brendle of Plumville, daughter Jean (Joseph) Miller of Erie, PA, granddaughter Amanda (Barry) Marchetto of Erie, PA, grandsons Joseph "JJ" (Alex) Brendle, Jr. of Ringold, PA, and Kyle Miller of Erie, PA, stepson Anthony Fortuna of Clarksville, TN, and a brother Robert Brendle of Idaho.

In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann Brendle, brothers Joseph and James Brendle, sister Shirley LaBance, and sister-in-law Mary M. Salerno.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 10:00 AM in St. Thomas More University Parish, 1200 Oakland Avenue, Indiana, PA 15701, with Father Richard N. Owens, OFM, Cap., as celebrant. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum of St. Bernard Cemetery, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bud's name to St. Thomas More University Parish.
