Barbara "Jean" Boyden, 84, of Indiana, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025, in Indiana. She was born in Indiana on October 22, 1940, to the late Margaret Conrad.
Jean graduated from Indiana High School in 1958 and joined the United States Navy where she was stationed in Norfolk, Va. She moved back to Indiana as a single parent with her 6 children in 1974. After working for Tony Recupero at Rustic Lodge through high school, Jean returned to work there until she was hired at Penelec, first as a meter reader, then as head of the collections department. Jean also worked a second job as a waitress at the Holiday Inn for several years to supplement her income. She retired in 1996. After her retirement, she moved to Wilmington, NC before returning to Indiana in 2021. Jean was an avid reader, loved gardening and landscaping, and had a remarkable eye for decorating, design, and fashion. As she loved to travel, she even took flying lessons. Along with her devout love and dedication to her children, she will be remembered for her generosity and her unwavering work ethic in providing a decent life for her children.
She is survived by her children, son Mike (Tammy) Kallal, of CO; daughter Becky Perkovich, of Indiana; daughter Suzanne (Don) Butchkoski of Indiana; daughter Heidi Preik of NC; son Joe Kallal of NC; eight grandchildren, and one brother Jim Garland.
In addition to her mother, Jean is preceded in death by her husband Deane Boyden, a daughter Jackie Kallal-Langton, a grandson Jacob Kallal, and a sister Judy Zahornacky.
Memorial donations may be made to Grane Hospice of Altoona, at 115 Union Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602.
At Jean's request, all services will be private and have been entrusted to the care of the Bowser Minich Funeral Home.
