Arthur H. Martel's Obituary

Arthur H. Martel, 78, of Indiana, died at Indiana Regional Medical Center on Friday, November 15, 2019.  He was born in 1941 in Woonsocket, RI to Edgar and Doria Donais Martel.

He graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst where he received his PhD in Economics.  Shortly following, he was employed at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the Economics Department where he was also the director of the Pre-Law program.  His love, passion, and participation in sports with his sons led to the development and instruction of a co-taught sports statistics class entitled, The Economics of Sports.

After 32 years of teaching, he kept in touch with many of his students, friends and colleagues and enjoyed traveling with his wife throughout his retirement.  He rarely missed a Celtics basketball or Patriots football game and annually attended the Red Sox's spring training camp in FT Myers, FL.

Arthur is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Suzette Gravel Martel; his two sons - Glenn Edgar Martel and wife Heidi Mitsko Martel of Indiana, PA and Craig Arthur Martel of Easton, PA; niece Kris Ann Fanning of North Smithfield, RI and nephew Kevin Fanning of Blackstone, MA.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his nephew Kenneth Fanning.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at St. Thomas More University Parish, Indiana, PA, where a funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m.
