Allen L. Shellhammer's Obituary

Allen L. Shellhammer, age 84, of Indiana passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at his home. He was born in 1931 in North Apollo to Carleton C. and Mabel L. Kipp Shellhammer. Allen was a member of the American Legion, Elderton, and the United Steel Workers. A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the US Army. He was employed as a plasterer and was later employed by US Steel in Vandergrift for more than 20 years. Allen enjoyed gardening, small game hunting, walking, and reading history. Surviving is his wife of 53 years Joyce A. (Strong) Shelhammer, Indiana; three children, David Shellhammer and wife Sandi, Virginia Beach, VA; Mary Shellhammer, Indiana; Mark Shellhammer and significant other Sherry Sleasman, Black Lick; four grandchildren, Sam Shellhammer, Armagh; Ray Shellhammer, New Florence; Alyson Shellhammer, Virginia Beach, VA; Aaron Shellhammer, Virginia Beach, VA; one sister, Caryl Joyce Grantz and husband Robert, North Apollo; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Daniel, four sisters and three brothers, Mildred Evans, Audrey Soska, Vivian Shamberger, Ozelma Fouse, Lyle, Neil, and James Shellhammer. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 10 to 11 A.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a funeral service will begin at 11 A.M. with the Rev. Herman Ridley officiating. Interment will be made in the Boiling Springs Cemetery.
