Obituary

Albert A. Howard, age 88, of Homer City, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was born in 1923 in Shelocta, to Albert and Sara Belle Carney Howard. Mr. Howard proudly served in the US Army during WW II as well as in the Korean War. As a corporal he served in the military police as a medical technician. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #1989. Al was employed at Robertshaw Controls for 27 years. He retired from the Indiana County Courthouse in 1996. Al was self-employed as a barber in Blairsville and Indiana. Mr. Howard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elsie (Morgan) Howard, Homer City; one daughter and one son, Carla D. Bodnar and husband Michael, Frederick, MD; William and wife Donna, Valencia; two grandchidlren, Chris Howard, Valencia; Amy Elkin and husband Mike, Butler; two great grandchildren, Haden Howard and Cassie Elkin; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, by two brothers and three sisters, Isaac and Charles Howard, Maude Frech, Goldie Renz, and Margaret Rummel. Friends will be received on Friday from 10 A.M. to 12 noon at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a funeral service will be at 12 noon with the Rev. Fr. Terry Hercik officiating. Interment will be made in the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital, or to the VNA of Indiana. Albert will be sadly missed by his family and friends and all that know him. The family's wish is that everyone who knew Al simply cherish their own memories of this wonderful man. Graveside military honors will be provided by the Saltsburg American Legion Post #57.
